What Diet Should a Person With Gout Follow

When you think a person is following a healthy diet, then you might think they should be in perfect health. However, there are certain conditions that even when you eat well, or think you are eating healthy, it will affect the body in a negative way. One such way is when a person has gout. There are foods that are considered to be health foods, but in a person who has gout, they might make them feel worse.

Stay Away from Purines

The foods for gout sufferers should be healthy, but with a few restrictions on them. Food that causes gout include ones that have a high purine level. Purines are processed in to the body and turn in to uric acid. Uric acid has crystals in it which cause pain in the joints and throughout the entire body. The gout food list to avoid includes salmon, mussels, oysters, sardines, anchovies, peas, lentils, cauliflower, asparagus, beer and even oatmeal.

While some of those food seem to be healthy, it is the way the body breaks them down and turns them in to another form that they become unhealthy. Food to eat with gout includes other healthy foods that don’t break down in to uric acid. You can mix in all kinds of food with moderation, but there are some leafy green, fruits and vegetables that are better than others. The gout good foods include strawberries, dairy products, oranges, lemons, papayas, tomatoes, broccoli, cantaloupe and raspberries.

Diet alone for gout might not be able to stop the pain, but you can also work with over the counter pain medication that relieves swelling too. There are lots of foods which can be healthy to your body, you just need to experiment and see which ones are the best for you and which ease the pain of gout in your joints. You can eat foods from the “bad” gout list, but if you do, balance it out with a lot from the good list.

As with any type of chronic health disease, make sure you drink enough fluids. Having water in your system processes out the toxins faster, meaning you can have a healthier body just by drinking water on a regular basis throughout the day. Eliminating caffeine drinks and alcohol will also help your body and joint health so you aren’t hurting with each step you take, all through your day.
